Pasqualino Pat Cortina (born September 4, 1964 in Montréal , Québec ) is an Italian - Canadian ice hockey coach who has been the head coach of Grizzlys Wolfsburg since the 2019/20 season .

Career

Cortina, who has Italian roots, coached the Italian national ice hockey team , the Italian first division clubs HC Varese and AS Asiago Hockey , from 2003 to 2006 the Hungarian club Alba Volán Székesfehérvár (here he won three championships in the Hungarian ice hockey league ), 2006/07 EHC Munich and HC Innsbruck in the Austrian ice hockey league in 2007/08 and the Hungarian national ice hockey team from 2003 to 2009 . In 2008, after 70 years under Cortina, Hungary made it back to the A group.

In 2008 Pat Cortina took over the coaching position at EHC Munich in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga . In the 2008/09 season, he and his team were runner-up straight away. In 2010 his team won both the DEB-Pokal and the championship and thereby achieved promotion to the German Ice Hockey League .

His contract with the EHC Munich was then extended to 2012 and, after the successful 2010/11 DEL season, by two additional years until 2014. In January 2012, Cortina was voted "Munich's Trainer of the Year 2011" in the AZ readers' poll behind Jupp Heynckes . In 2012, Cortina became the German national coach and received a three-year contract. In the 2012/13 season he also remained coach of the EHC Munich. After the 2015 World Cup , his contract with the DEB was not extended.

For the 2016/17 season, Cortina took over the position of trainer at Schwenninger Wild Wings from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). On October 29, 2018, Cortina was released from her duties after only seven points from 15 games of the Schwenninger Wild Wings.

For the 2019/20 season, the Italo-Canadian signed a two-year contract with the Grizzlys Wolfsburg .
