Mathis Olimb (born February 1, 1986 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Grizzlys Wolfsburg in Germany since 2019 . His brother Ken André is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Mathis Olimb began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown with Vålerenga IF , for whose professional team he made his GET-ligaen debut in the 2002/03 season and with which he became Norwegian champion for the first time in his rookie year . Following this success, he moved to Manglerud Star Ishockey in the top Norwegian league , for whom he scored 20 scorer points, including nine goals, in the main round in a total of 35 games. Before the 2004/05 season he left Manglerud as the club was downgraded to the second division due to financial problems. Olimb spent the entire 2004/05 season in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League , where he was on the ice for the London Knights , who had drawn him with their first pick as the 59th player in the 2004 CHL Import Draft , and Sarnia Sting . The attacker then returned to his Norwegian homeland for two years, where he played for Vålerenga IF, with whom he won the Norwegian championship again in 2006 and 2007. In the 2006/07 season he was also the best assists in the league.

In the summer of 2007, Olimb received a contract with the Augsburg Panthers from the German Ice Hockey League . There he was one of the leading players in his team in his two years with the Panthers and scored 80 points in 97 games, including 27 goals. For the 2009/10 season he was committed by Frölunda HC from the Swedish Elitserien . There, too, he was able to convince with 38 scorer points, including ten goals, in 62 games, whereupon he received a contract as a free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks , for whose farm team Rockford IceHogs he scored ten goals in 59 games in the 2010/11 season and made 22 assists scored in the American Hockey League . For the 2011/12 season he returned to Frölunda HC in the Elitserien and stayed there until 2015. In his last series for Frölunda he was the most valuable player , top scorer and best preparer in the Champions Hockey League .

He started the 2015/16 season with Jokerit from the KHL and switched to the Swiss National League A (NLA) on loan to Kloten Flyers in December 2015 . In April 2016, the Swedish first division club Linköpings HC announced its commitment and also signed his brother Ken André at the same time . After two years in Linköping and one season at Skellefteå AIK  , Olimb accepted a contract offer from Grizzlys Wolfsburg  from the German Ice Hockey League in May 2019 .

International

For Norway, Olimb took part in the junior division at the U18 junior world championships in Division I in 2003 , the U18 junior world championships in the top division in 2002 and 2004 , when he and seven other players were the best assists in the tournament, as well as the U20 juniors -World Championships of Division I in 2003 , 2004 and 2005 , when he was the top scorer and best assist giver of the tournament, and the U20 Junior World Championship of the top division in 2006 .

In the senior division, he was in his country's squad at the top division World Championships in 2007 , 2008 , 2010 , 2011 , when he was the best assist provider of the tournament, in 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2015 and 2016 . He also represented his colors at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver (along with the associated qualification) and in Sochi in 2014, as well as at the Olympic qualification for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang .
