Gerrit Fauser (born July 13, 1989 in Nuremberg ) is a German ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Grizzlys Wolfsburg from the German Ice Hockey League since the 2013/14 season . His stepfather Franz Steer is an ice hockey coach .
Career
Gerrit Fauser began his career in 2004 with the juniors of the Landshut Cannibals in the German Junior League . There he played a solid debut season with seven goals and five assists in the 2004/05 season , but was able to improve significantly in his second year and scored 29 points in 30 games .
In the 2006/07 season , the winger was only on the ice eleven times in the DNL and was mainly used by the professionals in the 2nd Bundesliga . In addition, Fauser made his DEL debut at the age of 17 , made possible by a sponsorship license , and played two games for the Straubing Tigers .
In the summer of 2007, the Nuremberg native moved to North America, where he went on the ice in the Canadian junior league QMJHL for the Olympiques de Gatineau . He fitted in well with the team, scoring 16 goals in 50 league games and preparing another nine. The Olympiques finished the regular season in third place and were among the dominant teams in the playoffs . In the first three rounds they only lost two games and met in the final against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies , who had survived the playoffs undefeated and had already led the league after the regular season. In the final series, however, the Olympiques were the dominant team and finally won after five games. Fauser contributed four goals and three assists to winning the Coupe du Président in 19 play-off games.
In the 2008/09 season, the attacker ran again in the jersey of the Olympiques de Gatineau. Fauser got off to a good start and was his team's top scorer with four goals and an assist in three games during the preparatory games . In the regular season he could not build on the performances and only got ten points in 36 games. In May 2009 Gerrit Fauser returned to Germany, where he initially played for two years for the Kölner Haie from the German Ice Hockey League and switched to league competitor Hannover Scorpions for the 2011/12 season. The striker initially received a one-year contract, but this was extended for another year in the current season. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he switched from his traditional jersey number 13 to number 23 in order to give his teammate Morten Green the 13. In his second season in Hanover, Gerrit Fauser showed very good performances and scored 24 points in 46 games.
In February 2013 it was announced that Fauser would switch to league rivals Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg for the 2013/14 season , where he initially signed a two-year contract. In Wolfsburg he is wearing jersey number 23 again. In December 2014 Fauser in Wolfsburg received an early contract extension until 2017, in September 2016 he signed another extension with Lower Saxony, this time until 2020. On August 13, 2019, another contract extension was announced, which Gerrit Fauser to 2023 to the Grizzlys Wolfsburg binds.
