Spencer Machacek (born October 14, 1988 in Lethbridge , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been playing for the Grizzlys Wolfsburg in the German Ice Hockey League since April 2018 .
Career
Spencer Machacek began his career in the 2004/05 season with the Brooks Bandits in the Alberta Junior Hockey League . In the three following seasons he was active for the Vancouver Giants in the Western Hockey League . With the Giants he won the President's Cup in 2006 and the Memorial Cup in 2007 . In the 2007 Memorial Cup final , Machacek scored the goal to make it 3-1 against the Medicine Hat Tigers with an empty net goal in an outnumbered situation .
On March 28, 2008, he signed his first professional contract with the Atlanta Thrashers . In the 2008/09 season he was first used in the Thrashers' farm team, the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League . During the season, however, he was nominated twice to the NHL roster of the Thrashers. On March 16, 2009 he made his debut in his team's 5-1 win over the Washington Capitals . Also for the successor team of the Thrashers in the NHL , the Winnipeg Jets , he should come to 13 NHL appearances at the end of the 2011/12 season due to the failures of Tanner Glass and Kyle Wellwood and this time also scored points (9 points - 2 goals, 7 assists), after which his contract with the Jets was extended by one year.
In the 2012/13 season he was only used for the Jets farm team, the St. John's IceCaps , and was transferred to the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 10, 2013 in exchange for Tomáš Kubalík . From the Blue Jackets he was transferred to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Paul Thompson the following season , but played at both clubs only for their farm teams in the American Hockey League and received no new contract after the end of the season.
When Machacek was not signed after the Toronto Maple Leafs training camp , he moved to the German ice hockey league for the Augsburg Panthers for the 2014/15 season , where he was supposed to replace the injured Ryan Bayda . From the 2015/16 season Machacek played for league rivals Eisbären Berlin . In the 2017/18 season Machacek played for the Düsseldorfer EG . He then moved to the Grizzlys in Wolfsburg.
