Tanner Glass (born November 29, 1983 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Boxers de Bordeaux from the French Ligue Magnus since August 2018 and plays for them in the position of the left winger .
Career
Junior League and College (2001-2007)
Glass began his career in the 2001/02 season with the Penticton Panthers in the junior league British Columbia Hockey League and ended his first season with 39 points from 57 games. During the following season he was transferred to the Nanaimo Clippers within the league and took part in the BCHL All-Star Game in 2003 . Between 2003 and 2007, the Canadian was on the ice for the university team of Dartmouth College in the ECAC Hockey , which is integrated into the game operations of the NCAA . After Glass had already served as assistant captain in the 2005/06 season , he led the team as captain the following year.
National Hockey League (2007-2018)
After Glass was previously selected in the ninth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2003 as a total of 265th player by the Florida Panthers from the National Hockey League , he received a trial contract ( try-out ) with their farm team Rochester Americans in March 2007 and graduated up at the end of the 2006/07 season a total of four appearances in the American Hockey League . In August 2007, the attacker finally received a two-way contract with the Panthers , but began the subsequent season again with the Americans in the AHL. In November 2007 Glass was called up for the first time in the NHL squad and played his first game in the top division of North America in the 3: 4 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes . Over the course of the season, 40 more missions followed, while he spent the rest of the time with the farm team in the AHL. The following year, Glass played almost exclusively for Rochester before sustaining an injury in February 2009 and then being out for the remainder of the season.
After his contract in Florida expired, he signed a one-year contract with league rivals Vancouver Canucks in the summer of 2009 . In Vancouver he completed his first full season in the NHL and posted 11 scorer points and 115 penalty minutes from 67 games at the end of the season. In June 2010, he received a one-year contract extension with the Canucks and established himself in the 2010/11 season as an integral part of the fourth series until an injury forced him to take a one-month break in March 2011. With his team, the Canadian then reached the Stanley Cup final, but where they lost to the Boston Bruins . Glass remained without a scorer point in all 20 play-off games of his team.
In July 2011, Glass was signed by the Winnipeg Jets and received a one-year contract with a rumored salary of $ 750,000. The following season , the left-shooter played in the third attack formation on the side of Jim Slater and Chris Thorburn and recorded the best season of his NHL career with 16 points scorer. During the summer break of 2012, the winger moved within the league to the Pittsburgh Penguins , but played for the duration of the lockout at the beginning of the 2012/13 season at HC 05 Banská Bystrica in the Slovakian Extraliga .
In the summer of 2014, Glass was signed by the New York Rangers , where he played a total of 66 games in the 2014/15 season , scoring six points. After his performance at the beginning of the following season again fell short of expectations, the Canadian was sent to the AHL for the Hartford Wolf Pack farm team . In December 2015, Glass was called back to the NHL squad due to injuries and poor form of established players, where he was unable to establish himself permanently until his contract ended in summer 2017. In August 2017, the free agent accepted a trial contract with the Calgary Flames , which finally became a firm contract in October of the same year. This was not extended in summer 2018.
Europe (since 2018)
In August 2018, Glass moved to Europe for a second time when he joined the Boxers de Bordeaux from the French Ligue Magnus in August 2018 .
Style of play
Glass is considered a hard-working enforcer , who is mostly used in the NHL in the fourth line of attack and is characterized by his aggressive style of play and tough tackling. Due to his style of play, Glass often gets into arguments and fist fights with his opponents, which in turn is reflected in a high number of penalty minutes. Glass is also described as a leader with a high work ethic.
