Garrett Festerling (born March 3, 1986 in Quesnel , British Columbia ) is a Canadian - German ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Grizzlys Wolfsburg in the German Ice Hockey League since 2019 .

Career

Festerling began his career in 2000 with the Vernon Vipers in the British Columbia Hockey League and moved in the summer of 2001 to the Portland Winter Hawks in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League . At the Winter Hawks, the center was part of the regular squad and was able to continuously increase its points. During the 2004/05 season, the Canadian joined league rivals Regina Pats , which he left after three years for an engagement with the Oklahoma City Blazers from the Central Hockey League .

In 2007 Festerling moved to the German top division EV Füssen , where he finally made his breakthrough with 133 points scorer in 56 games. With this quota, the attacker was awarded the top scorer of the 2007/08 season and was named Best Center and Oberliga MVP 2008 by the ice hockey specialist magazine Eishockey News . With EV Füssen, Festerling was able to advance to the play-off semi-finals after finishing third in the main round.

Due to the performances shown, the Canadian finally signed a three-year contract with the Hanover Scorpions from the German Ice Hockey League in summer 2008 . After Festerling won the championship with the Scorpions in the 2009/10 season , he moved to the Hamburg Freezers in the run-up to the 2010/11 season in exchange with Paul Manning within the league . In the following years, the attacker advanced to an attacking and strong center and formed one of the best strikings in the league with Jerome Flaake and David Wolf over several seasons, so that his contract was prematurely extended by three more years until 2018. In May 2016, the Freezers did not apply for a DEL license for the 2016/17 season, so Festerling's employment in Hamburg ended. A few days later the Adler Mannheim announced its commitment. At the end of the 2018/19 season he won his second German championship title with the Adler . After this success he moved to the Grizzlys Wolfsburg within the DEL and received a two-year contract there, which he had already signed in January 2019.
