Lucas Lessio (born January 23, 1993 in Maple , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Grizzlys Wolfsburg from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) since November 2019, where he plays in the position of the left winger .
Career
Lessio spent his junior years between 2010 and 2013 with the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League . In his first two seasons, the striker cracked the 50-point mark. After his rookie season , which earned him his appointment to the league's First All-Rookie Team, he was selected in the second round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in 56th place by the Phoenix Coyotes . The following summer, the Coyotes finally signed their draft pick, but kept him in Oshawa in the OHL. His last junior season there was marked by a protracted injury after a skate blade cut a ribbon in his hand, which resulted in an operation. Ultimately, he only played 44 games, including the play-offs.
After the end of the OHL season, Lessio promptly reinforced the Phoenix Coyotes farm team in the American Hockey League . For the Portland Pirates , the attacker completed eight more games during the remainder of the season. At the beginning of the 2013/14 season , the Canadian was finally anchored in the farm team and played 69 matches. He also made his debut in the National Hockey League for Phoenix. The following season he was there for the meantime in Arizona Coyotes renamed franchise frequently used, but also spent a large part again in the AHL, where now the Springfield Falcons were with Arizona in cooperation.
After Lessio had also started the 2015/16 season in the AHL with the Falcons, he was transferred to the Canadiens de Montréal in December 2015 in exchange for Christian Thomas . There he was part of the NHL squad until February of the following year and was deployed twelve times before he was again deported to the AHL. There he ended the season with the St. John's Ice Caps . Since the Canadiens did not offer him a new contract and no other team showed interest in signing the free agent after July 1, 2016 , Lessio took part in the training camp of the Los Angeles Kings and later on their farm team on a trial basis in September and October 2016 Ontario Reign . However, a commitment did not materialize, so a few days later he moved to the KHL Medveščak Zagreb in the Continental Hockey League . On February 7, 2017, the Swedish first division club Örebro HK announced Lessio's commitment.
From November 2017 Lessio played for Kunlun Red Star in the Continental Hockey League (KHL) before moving to Helsingfors IFK in the Finnish Liiga for the following season . There it was used 16 times by November 2018. He moved to the Czech Republic in the course of the season, where he made 15 more appearances for the extra league club Mountfield HK . Since November 2019 Lessio has been playing for the Grizzlys Wolfsburg in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). The Canadian scored a hat trick on his league debut against the Düsseldorfer EG .
