Franz Steer (born August 18, 1958 in Geisenhausen ) is a former German ice hockey player and today's coach , who was most recently the head coach of the Dresdner Eislöwen from the DEL2 . Before that he was the trainer of Starbulls Rosenheim from 2008 to March 2017 . His stepson Gerrit Fauser is also an ice hockey player.

Career

During his career as a defender, Steer played for SC Preussen Berlin , Eisbären Berlin and his home club EV Landshut , with whom he won the German ice hockey championship in 1983 .

He began his coaching career in 1999 after completing his playing career at TSV Erding in the same position and remained loyal to the club until 2007, even after it was renamed Erding Jets. At the beginning of 2008, Franz Steer took over the Starbulls Rosenheim in the ice hockey league , led them back to the 2nd national ice hockey league in the 2009/10 season and, after reaching the semi-finals in the first second division year, finally to the runner-up in the 2011/12 season when they were in Final defeated the Landshut Cannibals 2: 4. In the 2012/13 season, the Starbulls reached the semi-finals again and were defeated by the Bietigheim Steelers 3: 4 in the series.

On March 27, 2017, he was given leave of absence by the Starbulls management after the first playdown round. Two months later he was introduced as the new head coach of the Dresdner Eislöwen and one year later, after leaving the pre-playoffs, he was released from the two-year contract.

He has been training the ESC Dorfen since 2020 .
