The Champions Hockey League 2014/15 was the first to host the competition , which is the highest competition for club teams in European ice hockey .

mode

The 44 teams started in a group stage with 11 groups of 4 clubs. The teams played a home and an away game against each group opponent.

The group winners and the five best runners-up qualified for the round of 16. This, as well as the quarter-finals and semi-finals, were played back and forth. The winners from the two semi-finals played for the title in one game.

Attendees

44 clubs from 12 countries took part in the CHL 2014/15. The 26 clubs that are involved in the CHL Society (A licenses) are eligible to participate, provided they played in one of the leagues involved, and twelve other athletically qualified clubs from the participating leagues (B licenses, champions and main round winners, finalists could move up , Semi-finalists and second in the main round) and six clubs from five other leagues with so-called wild cards (C license).

The group stage took place from August 21 to October 8, 2014.

In the event of a tie, the following criteria decided the higher ranking:

  1. Number of points in direct comparison
  2. Goal difference in direct comparison
  3. Number of goals in direct comparison
  4. if the direct duels ended in overtime as well as in the penalty shootout , the victory after overtime was decisive
  5. if the direct duels both ended in a shootout, the higher number of penalty hits decided
  6. Performance in national league (2013/14)

Knockout phase

The draw for the complete knockout round took place on October 10, 2014. For the round of 16, the five best runners-up and the three weakest group winners were drawn from the eight best group winners. The latter enjoyed home rights in the second leg.

If a game was tied on the return leg, the decision was brought about in 10-minute overtime . If there was no winner in this one either, the penalty shootout decided .
