Jani Tuppurainen (born March 30, 1980 in Oulu ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with JYP Jyväskylä in the SM-liiga since May 2013 .
Career
Jani Tuppurainen began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Kiekko-Oulu , where he was active until 1999. He then played for a year and a half for Chicago Freeze in the North American Junior League , North American Hockey League , before returning to his hometown club Kiekko-Oulu for one and a half seasons, with whom he participated in the third-rate Suomi-sarja . From 2002 to 2005, the winger ran for Hokki Kajaani in the Finnish second division, the Mestis . He also made eight appearances as a loan player for Kärpät Oulu in the 2002/03 season .
From 2005 to 2008 Tuppurainen ran for KalPa Kuopio from the SM-liiga, where he ended the 2007/08 season at Färjestad BK from the Swedish Elitserien .
For the 2008/09 season Tuppurainen signed a contract with JYP Jyväskylä , with which he won the Finnish championship at the end of the season. He was able to repeat this success with his team in the 2011/12 season . Above all, he played a major role in winning the 2012 championship title. In the playoffs he was the player with the best plus / minus balance and was also awarded the Jari Kurri trophy as the best player in the playoffs.
After this success he left the club and was signed by KHL newcomer HK Donbass Donetsk and completed 37 KHL games for Donbass and also won the IIHF Continental Cup before returning to JYP in May 2013.
International
For Finland , Tuppurainen took part in the Euro Hockey Tour in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015 . He was also a member of the Finnish national team at the 2012 World Cup and was used in two games, preparing a goal.
