Mikko Ville Kalevi Mänenpää (born April 19, 1983 in Tampere ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with JYP Jyväskylä in the Finnish Liiga since 2017 .
Career
Mikko Mänenpää started his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Tappara Tampere , where he was active until 2002. The defender then moved to JYP Jyväskylä , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga , the top Finnish division, in the 2002/03 season . In nine games he stayed without points and received four penalty minutes. In the following years he was regularly used for JYP in the SM-liiga and also played six games as a loan player in the second-rate Mestis for Vaasan Sport and Mikkelin Jukurit . After he had started the 2004/05 season at JYP Jyväskylä, he moved to their league rivals Pelicans Lahti in January 2005 , for whom he prepared two goals in 32 games by the end of the season.

The entire 2005/06 season spent Mäepää with his ex-club Mikkelin Jukurit in the Mestis, whose championship he won with his team. He then received a contract with HPK Hämeenlinna in the SM-liiga, in which he scored 45 scorer points in a total of 61 games in the 2006/07 season , including 17 goals, and had a large share in his team's third place in the playoffs. Due to his good performance, he was elected to the All-Star Team of the SM-liiga for the first time this season. In June 2007, the left-handed shooter signed a contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets from the National Hockey League , but played exclusively for their farm team Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League , where he prepared two goals in seven games. In November 2007 he returned to HPK Hämeenlinna in the Finnish SM-liiga, but ended the 2007/08 season at Skellefteå AIK in the Swedish Elitserien .
Mänenpää played again for HPK Hämeenlinna in the SM-liiga from 2008 to 2010 and was runner-up with his team in the 2009/10 season . In addition, he was elected to the All-Star Team of the SM-liiga himself this season. The Finnish international spent the 2010/11 season at Frölunda HC in the Elitserien. For the Swedes he scored eight goals and ten assists in 46 games. In preparation for the season, he also appeared in the European Trophy seven times for Frölunda . For the 2011/12 season he was committed by Amur Khabarovsk from the Continental Hockey League . He played 55 KHL games for Amur before moving to HK CSKA Moscow in July 2012 . He was also only active for CSKA for a few months, since he moved to HC Lev Prague in January 2013 within the KHL . In June 2013, his contract with HC Lev was extended by two years and Mäenpää reached the KHL play-off final with the club in 2014.
In August 2014, he returned to JYP after HC Lev Prague withdrew from the KHL game. With JYP, he finished third at the end of the 2014/15 season. He was then signed by the Swiss club Ambrì-Piotta from the National League A in July 2015 . In the following two years Mäepää played for the club from Ticino and scored 12 goals and 54 assists in 88 NLA games. In 2016 he was elected to the National League's Media All-Star Team . After the end of the 2016/17 season, he decided to return to Finland and was signed by JYP for three years. In 2018 he won the Champions Hockey League with JYP .
International
For Finland Mäenpää took part in the junior division at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2001 , where he won the bronze medal with his team. In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 2010 and 2012 World Championships and at the Euro Hockey Tour in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 .
