Robert Rooba (born September 2, 1993 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian ice hockey player who has been under contract with JYP Jyväskylä in the Finnish Liiga since 2016 .

Career

Club

Robert Rooba began his career as a hockey player in his Estonian homeland with Purikad Tallinn . At the age of 15, he moved to Finland in 2008 for the Espoo Blues , where he was initially used in the youth teams. In the 2011/12 season he made his debut in the professional team of the Blues in the Liiga , which later belonged to the squad. In the 2013/14 season he was able to establish himself as a supplementary player in the Blues with 36 appearances in 60 games. In January 2016 he moved to the Mestis club Kokkolan Hermes , where he ended the season. Since 2016 he has been playing in the Liiga again at JYP Jyväskylä . In 2018 he won the Champions Hockey League with the club .

International

For Estonia, Rooba took part in the junior division II of the U18 World Junior Championships in 2009 and 2010 , Division I of the U20 Junior World Championship 2009 , when the Estonian team had to relegate after five, sometimes double-digit, defeats, as well as the tournaments of Division II of the U20 Junior World Championships 2010 , 2011 , 2012 and U20 Junior World Championships 2013 . He was both in 2012 (together with his compatriot Artjom Gornostajev ) and 2013 top scorer of the B group of Division II and achieved promotion to the A group of Division II in 2013 with the Estonian team. 2011, 2012 and In 2013 he was named the best player in the Estonian U20 team .

As a 16-year-old Rooba made his debut for the men's national team at the 2010 World Cup in Division II , when the Balts were promoted to Division I. After he and his team had to accept an immediate relegation a year later , he was involved in the renewed promotion to Division I in 2012 with three goals and five assists. The renewed relegation of the Estonians, who have developed into an elevator team between Divisions I and II, he could not prevent in 2013 at the tournament of Group B of Division I in Donetsk . In 2014 he not only gave the most assists and scored the highest number of scorer points at the Group II tournament in Belgrade , but was also voted the best striker of the tournament and the best player on his team. With six goals he was also the second best goalscorer of the tournament after the Serbian Marko Kovačević . He was thus one of the guarantors of the repeated promotion of the Estonian team to Division I. At the 2015 World Cup , he finally managed to get out of the elevator with the Balts and achieve relegation in Division I. Also in 2016 , when he contributed to relegation as top scorer (together with British Ben O'Connor ) and top scorer (together with Croat Mike Glumac ) and the best player of his team, in 2017 and 2018 he played in Division I. He also played he represented his colors in the qualification for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and in the 2016 Baltic Cup.
