Marko Kovačević ( Serbian - Cyrillic Марко Ковачевич ; born June 8, 1985 in Belgrade , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Belgrade in the Serbian ice hockey league since 2016 .

Career

Marko Kovačević began his career as a hockey player in the youth division of HK Partizan Belgrade , for whom he first played in 1999 in the Yugoslav ice hockey league. In 2001 he left his hometown and moved to HK Vojvodina Novi Sad . With the team from southern Batschka , he won the Yugoslav championship title in 2002 and 2003 and the title of Serbia and Montenegro in 2004. In the 2002/03 season he played individual games for the Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Hockey League . In 2005 he went to Canada for four years and played for the McGill University team from Montreal , the McGill Redmen, in the Québec Student Sport Federation . After completing his studies, Kovačević returned to his home country to his home club Partizan Belgrade. With the partisans he not only won the Serbian national championship title in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 , but also the Slohokej League in 2011 and 2012 . In 2011 he was named Most Valuable Player in the Slohokej League . In the 2012/13 season he was the second best scorer and a year later even top scorer and top scorer in the Serbian league. In the 2016/17 season he played one more game for local rivals HK Belgrade .

In 2015/16 he was assistant coach at Partizan Belgrade.

International

For Yugoslavia Kovačević took part in the European Division II of the U-18 World Cup 2000 and Division III of the U-18 World Cup in 2001 and 2002 and the U-20 World Cup in 2001 and 2002, also in Division III. For Serbia and Montenegro he played in Division II at the 2003 World Championships for U18 and U20 juniors .

In the men's area, Kovačević first took part with the Serbian-Montenegrin selection at the World Championships in Division II in 2003 and 2005 . For Serbia he played at the World Championships of Division II in 2008 , 2009 when he was the third best scorer of the tournament behind the Estonians Aleksandr Petrov and Vassili Titarenko , in 2011 , 2012 and 2014 when he was the top scorer and third best scorer of the tournament behind the Estonians Robert Rooba and the Icelander Emil Alengård . At the 2010 World Cup , he represented his colors in Division I. In 2009 and 2014 he was voted the best player on his team.

At the 2015 World Cup , he acted as assistant coach of the Serbian selection in Division II. In the following year , he was their head coach.
