Emil Alengård (born November 19, 1987 in Linköping , Sweden ) is a Swedish - Icelandic ice hockey player who has been under contract with Saints HC from Stockholm in the seventh class Swedish Division 5 since 2017 . In addition to his playing career, he also works as a coach.
Career
Emil Alengård began his career as an ice hockey player in his Swedish hometown Linköping at the local ice hockey club , for which he played in various teams up to Sweden's highest youth league, the J20 SuperElit . In 2005 he switched to Mjölby Hockey for the first time , the club where he was to be frequently under contract in the future, and played for the team from Linköping's western neighborhood in the fourth-class Division 2 . But after just one year he returned to Linköping and the J20 SuperElit. Finally outgrown the junior class, he played in 2007/08 in the third class Division I at Gislaveds SK in Småland . The center forward then moved to the United States for two years to be on the ice at New England College in the third division of ECAC Hockey . In 2010 he returned to Mjölby and played - apart from a detour to league competitor Vita Hästen in 2012/13 - there until 2014 in Division 1. He then moved to Skövde IK and a year later to Haninge Anchors HC , which is also in the third highest - now called Hockeyettan - compete in the Swedish league. Since 2017 he has been playing for the Saints HC from Stockholm in the seventh-class division 5.
International
Although he was born in Sweden and - with the exception of his two college years in the USA - was always active for Swedish clubs, Emil Alengård played for Iceland as a teenager. He participated in Division II of the U-18 World Cup in 2005 and the U-20 World Cup in 2006 in Division III, when his 20 goals contributed significantly to promotion to Division II, and in 2007 in Division II.
At the same time, Emil Alengård played in the men's national team . He made his debut as a 17-year-old at the 2005 World Cup when he had to relegate from Division II with the Icelanders. Already in the following year he and his team managed to rise again, in which, as the best assists in the Division III tournament with eleven assists, he played a significant part. He then played at the World Championships in 2007 , 2008 , when he and the Australian Christopher Sekura were the second best preparer behind his compatriot Greg Oddy , in 2009 , 2010 , when he and the Estonian Aleksandr Petrov and the Romanian Csanád Virág were the third best scorer behind the Estonians Andrei Makrov and Anton Nekrassov was in 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 when he was the second best scorer of the tournament behind the Estonian Robert Rooba , in 2015 and 2016 in Division II. In 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016 he was the best player of the Icelandic team. He also represented his colors in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
Trainer
At the U18 World Cup 2017 he was the head coach of the Icelandic youngsters in Division II and at the U20 World Cup 2018 he was assistant coach in Division III. Since 2017 he has been assistant coach of the AIK Ishockey U20 team in the J20 SuperElit .
