Csanád Virág (born December 27, 1988 in Miercurea Ciuc ) is a Romanian ice hockey player who has been playing in the Romanian Ice Hockey League and the MOL League at the ASC Corona 2010 Brașov since 2012 .

Career

Club

Csanád Virág, who belongs to the Hungarian-speaking Szekler minority in Romania , began his career at what was then HC Csíkszereda . For the team from his hometown Miercurea Ciuc he first played in the Hungarian ice hockey league and in 2008/09 in the newly founded MOL league , which the team was able to win. After HC Csíkszereda was dissolved after this season for financial reasons, despite the championship title, Virág moved to the traditional neighbor HSC Csíkszereda . With the traditional club of the Szekler in Miercurea Ciuc he won the MOL league in 2011 and the Romanian championship title in 2012 . In 2010 and 2011 he also won the Romanian Cup competition with the HSC. In 2012 he moved to the south of Transylvania for ASC Corona 2010 Brașov , with which he was able to win his third cup straight away and also became Romanian runner-up. A year later, he and his club also won the Romanian championship title and in 2015 the cup competition again.

International

Virág plays internationally in contrast to other Szeklers who compete for Hungary , for his native Romania . He was already active in the junior division at world championships: In Division III of the U-18 World Championship in 2006 , he was involved in the promotion of the Romanians to Division II with six goals and nine assists. He was then used in the same year in Division II of the U-20 World Cup , in which he was also on the ice in 2007 and 2008 .

Virág made his debut in the men's national team at the World Championships Division II in 2008 in his hometown of Miercurea Ciuc , when he was promoted to Division I with his team. He contributed three goals and five assists. In the following year he could not prevent the direct descent of his country to Division II. In 2010 , when he was the third top scorer behind the Estonians Andrei Makrov and Anton Nekrassov , together with the Icelandic Emil Alengård and the Estonian Aleksandr Petrov , and in 2011 he again took part in the competitions of Division II of the World Cup. After he was promoted again at the 2011 tournament, he competed with Romania in Division I of the World Cup in 2012 , 2013 and 2014 .

He also played for Romania in the qualifying tournaments for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi .
