Vaasan Sport is a Finnish ice hockey club from Vaasa , which was founded in 1939 and plays in the Liiga . The team plays their home games in the Vaasa Areena .

history

Vaasan Sport was founded in 1939. In 1962 the ice hockey department was founded, which in 1975 belonged to the clubs that founded the SM-liiga . A year later, the team rose from this.

Vaasan Sport versus TuTo , August 2005

After relegation Vaasan Sport took part in Division 1, which was then the second division. At the end of the 1991/92 season, relegation to Division 2 followed. In the following years, the club tried to move up from the third to the second division, but in 1997 it succeeded. In the decisive game, Kari Teräväinen scored a goal against Kiekko-67 in overtime and thus achieved promotion to the second division. In 2000, the second division was renamed Mestis . In 2002 the first men's team was outsourced to an operating company, HT Vaasan Sport Oy.

In 2005 and 2006, the team won the Mestis runner-up, and in 2007 they finished third. In the 2008/09 season of the Mestis Vaasan Sport reached the playoff final, in which the team defeated Jokipojat 3-1 and thus reached the championship of the Mestis. In the league qualification Vaasan Sport failed after seven games with 3: 4 wins at Ässät Pori .

2011 Vaasan Sport reached again the championship of the Mestis under Antti Törmänen .
