Robin Figren (born March 7, 1988 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with EHC Kloten in the Swiss League since June 2019 and plays there in the position of left winger .
Career
Figren went through the youth department of Hammarby IF , the club of his hometown, during his junior years . For the 2004/05 season he moved to the junior division of Frölunda HC in Gothenburg , where he matured into one of the best junior players under 18 in Sweden this season. Also in the following season he was used in the junior teams of the club from Gothenburg. He was also able to play two games with the first team in the Elitserien and the European Champions Cup and was invited to the Swedish U18 national squad for the U18 Junior World Championship in 2006 .
After he was selected in the third round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft in 70th place by the New York Islanders , he moved straight to North America. There he ran in the 2006/07 season for the Calgary Hitmen from the Western Hockey League . In 62 games he scored 27 points there. For the 2007/08 season he went to the Edmonton Oil Kings within the league . At the end of 2007 he was appointed to the squad for the U20 World Junior Championship in 2008 . There he won the silver medal. For the 2008/09 season Figren returned to Sweden and completed almost the entire season at Djurgårdens IF in the Elitserien. He then moved back to North America and was appointed to the roster of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , the New York Islanders' farm team. During the 2009/10 season, the Swede became a regular in Bridgeport.
For the 2011/12 season Figren returned to his Swedish homeland, where he was signed by Linköpings HC. After four years at Frölunda HC , during which he won the Le Mat Cup with the Indians in 2016 and twice the Champions Hockey League , his contract expired and Figren signed a two-year contract with HV71 in May 2017 .
