Lars Stefan "Skuggan" Nilsson (born April 5, 1968 in Luleå ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player . He scored the most assists in the Elitserien of all time.

Career

Stefan Nilsson began his career with his hometown club Luleå HF , for which he completed his first league game in the Elitserien in the 1984/85 season . In the 1986 NHL Entry Draft , Nilsson was selected in the sixth round in position 124 by the Washington Capitals . However, he never played for the Caps or in the National Hockey League . In the course of the 1986/87 season he became a fixture in the squad of Luleå HF for the first time and came to 23 missions for this, in which the Swedish junior international scored twelve points scorer. In the following years Nilsson was set as a regular player and never stood out as an outstanding goalscorer. In the Elitserien he reached his career best in the 1995/96 season with 14 goals in the regular season before the attacker won the Swedish championship for the first time in the playoffs with Luleå HF . Three years earlier he had won the runner-up with the team and the same happened again in the 1996/97 season . Rather, it was his passer qualities that shaped him to the A-national team and later the captain carried the team. During his career, Nilsson was four times the best assists in the Elitserien (1990/91, 1991/92, 1996/97 and 2001/02).

After he had not played for any other club than Luleå HF, the Swede decided to leave his home country in 1998 and accepted an offer from EC KAC , with whom he played in the Austrian ice hockey league . In his first season he also took part in the Alpine League with the club . In the 1999/2000 season , Nilsson won the Austrian championship with the Klagenfurtners . The season was rounded off by winning the Interliga . The following season followed a commitment to HC La Chaux-de-Fonds , with which Nilsson played in the 2000/01 season in the National League A , but was relegated to the second-highest division at the end of the season. He then returned to his hometown and received a contract with Luleå HF. The right-handed shooter completed three seasons for this before ending his career in 2004.

International

His greatest success with the Swedish national team was winning the silver medal at the 1993 , 1995 and 1997 World Championships . He also took part with the Swedish selection at the U18 European Junior Championship in 1986 and the Junior World Championship in 1988 .

As a trainer and functionary

From 2012, Nilsson has been working as a coach in Luleå HF's youth division before he was accepted into the professional team's coaching staff for the 2014/15 season. Before the 2016/17 season, he was promoted to head coach of the team before moving to the post of general manager in 2017.
