A highlight of his career came in 2014 when he was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft .

After Rod was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the championship round with Genève-Servette in the 2016/17 NLA season, he signed a contract with the San Jose Sharks on March 24, 2017. They used him in their farm team , the San Jose Barracuda , in the American Hockey League until the end of the season , before he returned to Genève-Servette HC on loan in September 2017. After another nine AHL appearances in the 2017/18 season, his contract in San Jose was terminated prematurely in the summer of 2018, so that he returned permanently to Geneva.

The striker made further appearances at the U20 World Junior Championships in 2015 and 2016 in the top division.

At the 2016 Deutschland Cup , Rod was part of the senior national team for the first time . The striker completed his first major international tournament at the 2018 World Cup , where he won the silver medal with the team.
