Daniel Manzato (born January 17, 1984 in Freiburg ) is a Swiss ice hockey goalkeeper who has been playing for Genève-Servette HC from the Swiss National League since 2020 .
Career
Manzato comes from the offspring of HC Friborg-Gottéron , for whom he was used as a substitute goalkeeper in the National League A for the first time in the playoffs of the 1999/2000 season . In 2001 he decided to move to North America and played for three years with the Tigres de Victoriaville from the Québec Major Junior Hockey League . During this time he was selected in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fifth round as a total of 160th draft pick.
In 2003 the goalkeeper returned to Switzerland and played for the Kloten Flyers , HC Ambrì-Piotta and EHC Basel in the following four seasons . He established himself within the league. In 2007 he dared to move to North America again and was pushed from one team to the next within the organization of the Hurricanes before he stayed with the Las Vegas Wranglers from the ECHL for several months . With these, the Swiss reached the final of the Kelly Cup in 2008 , the championship trophy of the ECHL. In the summer of 2008 he took part in the Hurricanes training camp, but was not included in the NHL squad. Instead, he plays for the Hurricanes' farm team , the Albany River Rats , in the American Hockey League as the second goalkeeper behind Justin Peters .
23 August 2009 signed Manzato a three-year contract with the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers of the Swiss National League A . Then he was under contract for six years at HC Lugano , where he mostly acted as a second goalkeeper. For the 2018/19 season he switched to regional rival HC Ambrì-Piotta , where he again mostly filled in the back-up behind Benjamin Conz . For the Spengler Cup 2018 he was loaned to KalPa Kuopio and won the tournament. In December 2019 he was signed by Genève-Servette HC for the 2020/21 season .
