The IIHF Continental Cup 2015/16 was the 19th staging of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF discharged competition . The tournament started on October 2nd, 2015, the super-final took place from January 8th to 10th, 2016. A total of 17 teams from as many European countries took part in the 6 tournaments.

mode

  • The winner of the Continental Cup was given the right to start the Champions Hockey League (CHL) for the following season
  • No participant was automatically qualified for the final tournament; H. all teams had to qualify for the super finals through qualifying tournaments of the various rounds
  • Teams from the countries of the founding leagues of the CHL are not allowed to participate in the Continental Cup (Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany, Austria)

First round

The first round games took place in Belgrade ( Serbia ) from October 2-4, 2015 . Participants were HK Partizan Belgrade (Serbia), Rishon Devils ( Israel ), HK CSKA Sofia ( Bulgaria ) and Zeytinburnu Belediyesi SK ( Turkey ).

The winner of the first round qualified for the second round. There he met the seven teams already seeded for the second round.

Second round

The second round of the Continental Cup was played in two groups from October 23 to 25, 2015. The venues were Miskolc in Hungary (with host DVTK Jegesmedvék , HK Mogo Riga ( Latvia ), HDD Acroni Jesenice ( Slovenia ) and CH Jaca ( Spain )) and Tychy in Poland (with host GKS Tychy , Coventry Blaze ( United Kingdom ), CSM Dunărea Galați ( Bulgaria ) and the qualifier from the first round HK Partizan Belgrade from Serbia ). Partizan Belgrade moved up for HK CSKA Sofia, who subsequently waived their right to start after winning Group A due to financial problems.

The first placed of the two groups reached the third round and met the teams seeded for the third round.

Third round

The third round of the Continental Cup was played in two groups from November 20-22, 2015. The venues were Asiago in Italy (with host Asiago Hockey , Herning Blue Fox ( Denmark ), the HK Ertis Pawlodar ( Kazakhstan ) and the qualifier of group B HK Mogo Riga from Latvia ) and Rouen in France (with host Rouen Dragons , HK Schachzjor Salihorsk ( Belarus ), HK Kremenchuk ( Ukraine ) and the qualifier from Group C GKS Tychy from Poland ).

The first two of the two groups reached the final round.

The awards in the final tournament went to goalkeeper Simon Nielsen from Herning Blue Fox , French defender Patrick Coulombe from Rouen Dragons and his teammate, French striker Marc-André Thinel from tournament winner and host Rouen Dragons .

Marc-André Thinel from the Rouen Dragons secured the crown of the top scorer and top scorer . His five goals and seven points were unbeatable in both ratings. His team-mate François-Pierre Guénette secured the title of best assists with four assists. The best catch rate among the goalkeepers was shown by Simon Nielsen from Herning Blue Fox , who parried 94.25 percent of the shots on his goal.
