The European Ice Hockey Cup in the 1970/71 season was the sixth staging of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF . The competition began in October 1970; the final was played in September 1971. A total of 16 teams took part. The CSKA Moscow defended the title for the second year in a row.
Mode and participants
The national champions of the game year 1969/70 of the European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The competition was played in the knockout system in a two-legged manner. The defending champion CSKA Moscow and the Czechoslovakian champions ASD Dukla Jihlava were seeded for the semifinals.

1 EV Landshut was subsequently disqualified for playing two Czechoslovak players who were not eligible to play.
Brynäs IF Gävle and HC La Chaux-de-Fonds received a bye for the first round .

Semifinals
The defending champion CSKA Moscow and the Czechoslovakian champions ASD Dukla Jihlava were seeded for the semifinals. Brynäs IF and SG Cortina had home rights in both games. The games in Gävle took place on February 17 and 19, 1971, the games in Cortina d'Ampezzo on August 6 and 8, 1971.
