The IIHF Continental Cup 2019/20 was the 23rd edition of the of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF discharged competition are. The tournament started on September 20, 2019, the superfinal took place from January 10th to 12th, 2020. A total of 20 teams from as many European countries played in a total of seven tournaments.

mode

  • The winner of the Continental Cup receives the right to start in the Champions Hockey League (CHL) for the following season
  • No participant is automatically qualified for the final tournament, i. H. all teams have to qualify for the super finals through qualifying tournaments of the various rounds
  • Teams from the countries of the founding leagues of the CHL are not allowed to participate in the Continental Cup (Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany, Austria)

First round

For the first time a tournament of the Continental Cup will take place in Belgium.

Group A

The group A games took place from September 20-22, 2019 in the Turkish capital, Istanbul . The game was played in the Silivrikapı Buz Pateni Salonu . The participants were Zeytinburnu Belediyesi SK as host, Skautafélag Akureyrar ( Iceland ), KHK Red Star Belgrade from Serbia and SK Irbis-Skate ( Bulgaria ). The winner of group A qualifies for the second round. There he meets in Group C on teams already seeded for the second round.

The winner of group B qualifies for the second round. There he meets in Group D on teams already seeded for the second round.

Second round

The second round of the Continental Cup was played in two groups from October 18-20, 2019. The venues were the TRZ Terminal in Brovary, Ukraine (with hosts HK Donbass Donetsk , HK Mogo ( Latvia ), ASC Corona 2010 Brașov (Romania) and the winner of Group A, KHK Red Star Belgrade from Serbia) and the Ritten arena in Klobenstein, Italy (with host Ritten Sport , Ferencvárosi TC ( Hungary ), HK Olimpija ( Slovenia ) and the qualifier from the first round, CH Txuri Urdin San Sebastián ).

The first placed in the two groups reached the third round and met the teams seeded for the third round.

The awards in the final tournament went to goalkeeper Wital Trus from HK Njoman Hrodna , defender Mike Little in the service of SønderjyskE Vojens and striker Sam Herr , who was under contract with the Nottingham Panthers .

Jake Hansen of the Nottingham Panthers secured the top scorer's crown with six points. With three goals each, Sam Herr, also from the Panthers, and Arzjom Kisly from Hrodna were the best scorers. Most of the templates were provided by Hansen and his team-mate Mark Matheson , who each put up four goals. Nicolaj Hendriksen from the tournament winner from Vojens showed the best catch rate among the goalkeepers , who parried 96.23 percent of the shots on his goal.
