The European Ice Hockey Cup in the 1982/83 season was the 18th edition of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF . The competition began in October 1982; the final was played in August 1983. A total of 16 teams took part. The CSKA Moscow defended the title for the fifth time in a row.
Mode and participants
The national champions of the game year 1981/82 of the European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The competition was played in the knockout system in a two-legged manner. The final was played in a group of four in the mode everyone against everyone.

1 round
The first round games were played on October 14th and 28th, 1982. Eight teams played the four qualifiers for the second round.

2 Took place on October 27, 1982.
3 Took place on October 29, 1982.
4 Took place on October 21, 1982.
2nd round
The second round games were played on November 11th and 25th, 1982. The four winners of the first round and the four seeded participants - Feenstra Flyers Heerenveen, HK Jesenice, AIK Stockholm and HC Bozen - played the four qualifiers for the third round.
1 Both games took place in Bolzano.
2 Took place in Chur.
3rd round
The third round games were played on December 28, 1982 and January 4, 1983. The four winners of the second round and the four seeded participants - Tappara Tampere, SB Rosenheim, ASD Dukla Jihlava and the defending champion CSKA Moscow - played the four qualifiers for the final tournament.
1 Took place on December 3, 1982.
2 Took place on December 4, 1982.
3 Both games took place in Heerenveen.
4 Took place on January 1, 1983.
5 Took place in Chur on January 3, 1983.
Final tournament
The final tournament was from 25 to 28 August 1983 in the Finnish Tampere discharged. The games took place in the 7,800-seat Hakametsä .
