Timo Antero Susi (born January 25, 1959 in Kouvola ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player . His son Atte Susi is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Timo Susi began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of KooKoo , for whose professional team he was active from 1974 to 1978 in the I-divisioona , the second Finnish division. He then ran for Tappara Tampere in the SM-liiga for 14 years . At Tappara he was always one of the leading players and was team captain in Tampere from 1986 to 1991 . With his team he won the Finnish championship title six times in 1979, 1982, 1984, 1986, 1987 and 1988 when Tappara dominated national ice hockey.
During his active time, Susi set several records in the SM-liiga. In his career he scored a total of 38 goals in the SM-liiga playoffs, with which he reached a new record. On November 15, 1984 he scored nine points, which he set up a new high for scorer points in a SM-liiga game. In 2000 he was honored with admission to the Finnish Ice Hockey Hall of Fame . In addition, his jersey number 10 has been banned from his home club Tappara Tampere and will no longer be given to any other player.
International
For Finland , Susi took part in the junior division of the U20 World Junior Championships in 1978 and 1979 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 1983 , 1986 , 1987 and 1989 World Championships , as well as the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and 1988 in Calgary . At the 1988 Winter Games, he and his team won the silver medal.
