The IIHF Continental Cup 2011/12 was the 15th staging of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF discharged competition . The tournament was held from September 30, 2011 to January 15, 2012. A total of 18 teams from 18 nations took part in the competition, including a team from the so-called top 7 nations for the first time since the 2008/09 event .

Two finalists were set, the host Dragons de Rouen and the defending champion HK Junost Minsk from Belarus , as representatives of the highest-placed countries according to the IIHF league rankings 2011 that have registered for the tournament - with the exception of Russia . The two other finalists were determined in three qualifying rounds.

qualification

First round

The first round games will take place from September 30th to October 2nd, 2011 in the Turkish capital Ankara . The first announced HC Metulla from Israel did not take part in the tournament.

Second round

The second round of the Continental Cup was played from October 21 to 23, 2011 in two groups. The venues were Dunaújváros in Hungary and Miercurea Ciuc in Romania . The winner of Group A, White Caps Turnhout from Belgium , qualified to participate in Group B.

Third round

The third round of the Continental Cup will take place from November 25th to 27th, 2011. The game is played in two groups in the Danish Herning and Ukrainian Donetsk . Group B winner Dunaújvárosi Jégkorong qualified to participate in Group D, while Group C winner HK Liepājas Metalurgs bought the ticket to participate in Group E.

Super final

The Super Final of the Continental Cup took place from January 13th to 15th, 2012. The venue of the tournament was the French Rouen . In addition to the already seeded representatives from France and Belarus, the host Dragons de Rouen and the defending champion HK Junost Minsk , HC Asiago from Italy, as the winner of Group D, and HK Donbass Donetsk from Ukraine, secured themselves in the final qualifying round as the winner of group E, the remaining two places.

The awards at the final tournament went to goalkeeper Mika Oksa from HK Junost Minsk , Russian defender Vladimir Malevich in the service of HK Donbass Donetsk and French striker Marc-André Thinel from tournament winner and host Dragons de Rouen .

Carl Mallette of the Dragons de Rouen secured the crown of the top scorer and top scorer . His four goals and seven points were unbeatable in both ratings. His team mate Julien Desrosiers secured the title of best assists with six assists and also scored seven points. Fabrice Lhenry - also from the tournament winner from Rouen - had the best catch rate among the goalkeepers , who parried 94.50 percent of the shots on his goal.
