Layne Ulmer (born September 14, 1980 in North Battleford , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has played for the Cardiff Devils in the British Elite Ice Hockey League on the position of the center since 2016 .

Career

Ulmer, who was selected in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft in the seventh round in 209th position by the Ottawa Senators , played in his junior years between 1997 and 2001 for the Swift Current Broncos in the Western Hockey League .

For the 2001/02 season, Ulmer then moved to the professional camp and initially ran in the East Coast Hockey League . Since the Ottawa Senators hadn't been able to get him to sign a contract in the two years since the draft, he had switched to the New York Rangers organization as a free agent before the start of the season . For this he played his only game in the National Hockey League in the 2003/04 season .

In the summer of 2006 Ulmer moved to the Finnish SM-liiga to TPS Turku . In the 2007/08 season he played for the Frankfurt Lions in the DEL , for the following season he signed a one-year contract with the Graz 99ers in the Austrian ice hockey league. From 2009 to 2016 he was under contract with Asiago Hockey . He then moved to the Cardiff Devils , with whom he won the main round of the Elite Ice Hockey League in 2017 and thus the British championship . In the playoffs this success could not be confirmed because the playoff final against the main round third, the Sheffield Steelers , was lost.
