Career

Borrelli, who was born and raised in Canada to Italian immigrants, began his career as a hockey player with the Sault Ste. Marie North Stars. In 2002 he moved to the college team at Mercyhurst University , the Mercyhurst Lakers , for which he was active in the NCAA until 2006 . After brief stints with the Reading Royals and the Cincinnati Cyclones , the striker was under contract for a year with the Fresno Falcons , who like the two aforementioned teams play in the ECHL , and played 55 games there. In 2007 he went to the Italian first division club Asiago Hockey , whose team captain he was from 2011 to 2015. With the team from Veneto he won the Italian championship in 2010, 2011 and 2013 , and in 2013 also the Supercoppa .

International

Borrelli made his debut for the Italian national team in November 2012 as part of games in the Euro Hockey Challenge , although he did not yet have Italian citizenship at the time. At the World Cup in April 2013 he reached second place with the Italian team in Group A of Division I and thus immediately returned to the top division.
