The European Ice Hockey Cup in the 1992 season was the 28th edition of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF . The competition began in October 1992; the final was played in December 1992. A total of 25 teams took part. Malmö IF won the title for the first time.
Mode and participants
The national champions of the game year 1991/92 of the European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The competition was played with a preliminary round in five groups of three and one group of four in a simple mode. Then the respective group winners and six pre-qualified teams in three groups of four played the eight participants in the final tournament. In this, the best teams of two groups of three played the places crosswise.

Preliminary round
The preliminary round of the European Cup was played from October 9 to 11, 1992 in five groups. The first two of the group reached the final round.
Group A
Group A games took place in Sofia , Bulgaria . The HK Red Star Belgrade has been the basis of a UN - embargo against Yugoslavia disqualified.
