Jesper Mattsson (born May 13, 1975 in Malmö ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Malmö Redhawks in HockeyAllsvenskan since May 2011 .
Career
Jesper Mattsson began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with the Malmö Redhawks , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Elitserien in the 1991/92 season and was Swedish champion straight away in his rookie year . Mattsson, who can be used both as a winger and as a defender, contributed to the title win with an assist in 24 games. In the 1993/94 season he was able to repeat this success with Malmö. The Swede, who had been selected in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1993 as the 18th player by the Calgary Flames , ran from 1995 to 1998 for a total of three years for the Canadian farm team , the Saint John Flames , in American Hockey League before returning to Malmö during the 1997/98 season.
After successfully staying up in 2004 with the Redhawks, Mattsson moved to their league rivals Färjestad BK , with whom he was first runner- up in the 2004/05 season before winning the national championship with his team in 2006 and 2009. In February 2010 he signed a contract with the Malmö Redhawks, for which he played until December 2010 before Mattsson moved to Frölunda HC . In May 2011 he received another contract with the Malmö Redhawks.
International
For Sweden Mattsson took part in the U20 World Junior Championships in 1995 and the World Championships in 1999 and 2006 .
