Robert Burakovsky (born November 24, 1966 in Malmö ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who was last under contract with Kallinge / Ronneby in the fourth Swedish division, Division 2, until 2011. His son André and younger brother Mikael are also professional ice hockey players.
Career
Robert Burakovsky began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Malmö IF . From there he moved to the U20 juniors from Leksands IF in 1983 . In the 1985 NHL Entry Draft he was selected in the eleventh round as a total of 217th player by the New York Rangers , for which he then never played. Instead, he made his debut in the Elitserien , the highest Swedish division, for Leksand's professional team in the 1985/86 season . In his rookie year , he scored four goals and three assists in 19 games. In the following years, the winger was able to work out a regular place in Leksand and was one of the players with the best point yield within his team. In the 1988/89 season he reached the playoff final of the Elitserien with Leksand, in which he and his team lost to the opponent Djurgårdens IF in the best-of-five series with 1: 3 wins. In the same season he scored 56 points in 50 games, 29 of which were goals. He then played for two years for Leksand's league rivals AIK Solna , where he was able to improve again in the 1989/90 season . With 57 points, including 28 goals, he was the top scorer in the Elitserien in the main round. For the 1991/92 season Burakovsky returned to his hometown club Malmö IF. With the southern Swedes he was Swedish champion straight away in the first season after his return . Especially in the playoffs, he was able to convince himself and, together with three other players, was the top scorer in the playoffs with five goals.
After another year in Malmö, the right-handed shooter received a contract with the Ottawa Senators for the 1993/94 season , for which he was then on the ice in 23 games in the National Hockey League , scoring two goals and three assists. Most of the season, however, he spent with Ottawa's farm team Prince Edward Island Senators in the American Hockey League . In the AHL he scored 67 points, 29 of which were goals, in 52 games. He spent the 1994/95 season at the Klagenfurt AC . During his first stop in other European countries, he scored 68 points in 31 games for the EC KAC, including 30 goals, in the Austrian ice hockey league and only failed with his team in the playoff semi-finals. He then returned one more time to Malmö, for which he played in the Elitserien for one and a half years before moving to the Kassel Huskies from the German Ice Hockey League in the middle of the 1996/97 season. He stayed with Hessen for a year across all seasons and was one of the top scorers in his team during this period. He scored 16 goals and 19 assists in 39 DEL appearances. In the middle of the 1997/98 season , the Swede first joined JYP Jyväskylä from the Finnish SM-liiga , but ended the season with his league rival Ilves Tampere , with whom he was runner-up.
From 1998 to 2000 Burakovsky was in Switzerland with Friborg-Gottéron in the National League A under contract, where he played almost exclusively for the SC Herisau in the National League B in his first year . In the second Swiss division he scored 70 points in 35 games. Towards the end of the 1999/2000 season he also came to a single use for HC Ambrì-Piotta in the NLA. In the 2000/01 season , the former NHL player had to accept relegation from the Elitserien with his ex-club Leksands IF, but stayed even in the Elitserien, where he was obliged by his home club from Malmö. However , he ended the 2001/02 season with the DEG Metro Stars in the DEL. In the summer of 2002 he joined the Rødovre Mighty Bulls from the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen . With the Danes he immediately took on a leading role and was in his first year straight away in the main round in top scorer of the entire league with 43 points in his 27 appearances and also the best assists with 26 assists. After he started the following season with the Mighty Bulls, he moved to HC Meran from the Italian A1 series in the middle of the season . Even with the southern Europeans, he had no adjustment problems and scored 13 goals and 22 assists in 28 games.
From 2004 to 2006 he was again under contract in Denmark, this time with AaB Ishockey . In both seasons he was again top scorer of the AL-Bank Ligaen, and in 2006 he was also elected to the All-Star Team. The former junior international also began the 2006/07 season in Denmark at Herlev IK , which he left after only six months to play for IK Pantern from his home town of Malmö in the third Swedish division, Division 1, for one and a half years . to run up. In the 2007/08 season he was top scorer and the best assists in Group F of Division 1. After the end of the season in Sweden, he received a contract for the rest of the season with the Swiss second division EHC Biel . With this he was in the playoffs NLB champion and rose with his team to the NLA. Although the now 41-year-old striker was able to convince at Biel and achieve 19 scorer points, including six goals, in 16 games, he returned to his home country, where he scored 59 scorer points in only 17 games for the fifth division Trelleborg Vikings. Most recently he played for the Swedish fourth division club Kallinge / Ronneby from 2009 to 2011.
International
For Sweden Burakovsky took part exclusively in the Junior World Championship in 1986 , where he finished fourth with his team. During the tournament he scored one goal and one assist in seven games.
