history

The team was founded in 1968 based on the Canadian junior team Trail Smoke Eaters under the name Geleen Smoke Eaters . The foundation followed the construction of the ice rink in the same year. The team played their first game on November 2, 1968 against Amstel Tijgers Amsterdam . Since their first season in the Eredivisie , the 1971/72 season, the team was almost exclusively represented in this. The team's greatest success was winning the national cup competition in the 1992/93 and 2009/2010 seasons. In the 2011/2012 season the team won the Dutch championship for the first time. With the Germans Haiko Hirsch and Benjamin Finkenrath , as well as the American Jake Brenk , three players played for Geleen, all of whom were later active for the EHC Dortmund .
