Jake Brenk (born April 16, 1982 in Detroit Lakes , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with EHC Dortmund from the major league since the 2009/10 season .

Career

Brenk began his career in 2001 at Minnesota State University, Mankato , where he was active for the ice hockey team in the American college league Western Collegiate Hockey Association . During the 2001 NHL Entry Draft , those responsible for the Edmonton Oilers selected him in the fifth round at a total of 154th position. The offensive player then finished his studies during the 2004/05 season and joined the Greenville Grrrowl from the ECHL for eleven games .

For the 2005/06 season he first signed a contract with the Adirondack Frostbite from the former United Hockey League , but moved a little later back to the ECHL to the Pensacola Ice Pilots . The then 23-year-old played three season games for the Ice Pilots and did not score a scorer point. At the end of the current season, he forced a move to Europe and went on the ice for the Nijmegen Emperors from the Dutch Eredivisie . There the right-shooter was one of the team's best scorers and was able to score 47 times in a total of 34 games.

Due to the performances shown, he went back to North America in the summer of 2006 for the Central Hockey League , where he laced his skates for the New Mexico Scorpions . After he couldn't convince there and only scored four points in 19 missions, he returned to the Nijmegen Emperors during the season. In Nijmegen he finally ended the 2006/07 season. After a stint in Sweden at Kallinge / Ronneby IF, he went on the ice for the Ruijters Eaters Geleen in the 2008/09 season . At the end of May 2009, the now 27-year-old moved to the third-highest German division, the Oberliga, at EHC Dortmund.
