Peter Sundström (born December 14, 1961 in Skellefteå ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League from 1978 to 1995 for the New York Rangers , Washington Capitals and New Jersey Devils, among others .
Career
Peter Sundström began his career as a hockey player at IF Björklöven , for whom he was active in the Elitserien from 1978 to 1983 and with whom he was only defeated in the finals of the Swedish AIK Ishockey Championship in the 1981/82 season . During his time with Björklöven, the attacker was selected in the third round of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft as a total of 50th player by the New York Rangers . for which he was active in the National Hockey League from 1983 to 1986 . He then returned for a season to his ex-club Björklöven IF, with whom he was the first Swedish champion in the 1986/87 season .
In the summer of 1987 Sundström returned to the NHL, where he was on the ice for the Washington Capitals for two years . During the 1989/90 season he ran in parallel for their league rivals New Jersey Devils and their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Utica Devils . He then returned one more time to Sweden, where he was active until 1995 for the Malmö Redhawks , with whom he won the national championship in 1992 and 1994 respectively.
International
For Sweden Sundström took part in the U20 Junior World Cup in 1981 , as well as the World Cups in 1982 , 1983 and 1987 .

Sundström's father Elon and his twin brother Patrik were professional ice hockey players, as was his uncle Kjell . His nephew Alexander currently plays for Brynäs IF in the Swedish Elitserien .
