The European Ice Hockey Cup in the 1983/84 season was the 19th edition of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF . The competition began in October 1983; the final was played in August 1984. A total of 16 teams took part. The CSKA Moscow defended the title for the sixth time in a row.

Mode and participants

The national champions of the game year 1982/83 of the European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The competition was played in the knockout system in a two-legged manner. The final was played in a group of four in the mode everyone against everyone.

The first round games were played on October 6 and 20, 1983. Eight teams played the four qualifiers for the second round.

The four winners of the second round as well as the four seeded participants - HIFK Helsinki, EV Landshut, ASD Dukla Jihlava and the defending champion CSKA Moscow - played the four qualifiers for the final tournament. Final tournament

The final tournament was held from August 8th to 12th, 1984 in Ortisei, Italy . The games took place in the St. Ulrich ice rink with a capacity of 4,000 spectators .
