The European Ice Hockey Cup in the 1965/66 season was the first edition of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF . The competition was held from October 23, 1965 to March 18, 1966. A total of 14 teams from 14 nations took part. The first European Cup winner was the Czechoslovak team of TJ ZKL Brno , which prevailed in the final against the German representative EV Füssen .

Mode and participants

The national champions of the game year 1964/65 of the European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The tournament was played in a knockout system with four games per round. Two games were played at each club, followed by two games at the opponent. The team that won more games advanced to the next round. The EV Fussen and TJ ZKL Brno received a bye for the first round.
