Ice stadium on the Kobelhang

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Eisstadion am Kobelhang (short: Kobelstadion) was the former stadium of the EV Füssen ice hockey club . It was opened on October 26, 1949 with a friendly match between EV Füssen and VfL Bad Nauheim . A natural ice rink had previously stood in the same place. The stadium was owned by the club. The construction of the stadium was supported by monetary and material donations from the population. Nevertheless, two years after the opening, it became known that the association had taken over financially with this new building.

At the beginning, around 16,000 spectators fit into the Kobel Stadium. In 1963 the stadium got a roof. The capacity was then 7,000 spectators. The artificial ice stadium was expanded in 1973 with the opening of the National Ice Hockey Center (BLZ) and from then on offered optimal conditions for ice hockey.

In 1983 the 16-time German champion EV Füssen fell into the second division. From this time on, the club played more and more in the neighboring BLZ. In 1988 the Kobel Stadium was demolished. Two years later the new BLZ arena was opened at the same location.
