Josef Černý (born October 18, 1939 in Rožmitál pod Třemšínem , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player and today's coach who has played over 600 games in the 1st division and over 200 international matches.

Career

In his 21-year career at ŽKL Brno , he set the Czechoslovak league record with a total of 686 games. The 403 goals scored in the process put him in second place. From 1960 to 1966 he won the championship seven times at the national level . From 1966 to 1968 he also won the European Cup three times .

For the Czechoslovak national ice hockey team he was on the ice in 210 international matches. With a total of four Olympic Games , he won three medals - in 1964 the bronze, 1,968 silver and 1,972 in 1972 again the bronze medal. In a total of twelve ice hockey world championships , he managed to win ten medals, but never became world champion.

He spent his last season 1978/79 as a player-coach at the Austrian club ATSE Graz . This was followed by a career as a coach in Italy and Czechoslovakia.

Since 2005 he has been working as a junior trainer at Kometa Brno. In 2007 he was honored for his services with the induction into the IIHF Hall of Fame .
