Rožmitál pod Třemšínem (German Rožmital , 1939-1945: Rosenthal ) is a town in the Středočeský kraj region ( Czech Republic ). It lies on the upper reaches of the Skalice .
history
The area was settled by Slavic tribes as early as the 6th and 7th centuries. The oldest part of town, Alt Rosenthal (Latin Antiqua civitas ) already existed in the 10th century. At this time the first fortress was built, which at that time was called Rosenthal and belonged to the Lords of Třemšín (z Třemšína), named after the mountain under which the town and the castle were located. They descended from the old Bohemian family of the Buzic ( Buzický von Buzic ).
The first historically proven ruler was Jetříšek Buzovic , whose coat of arms still adorns the city today. Later, the family adopted the addition of Rosenthal to the name, the first to use this name was King Ulrich Lev von Rosental .
Half of the city was donated to the Archdiocese of Prague by Sezim Lev von Rosental in 1347 , which held it until 1436. In the 16th century the Lev von Rosental family lost their possessions, which fell into the hands of the Bavarian knight Griespek von Griespach. Florian Griespek von Griespach († 1588) was the ancestor of the family, which branched out into a Bavarian, Tyrolean and Bohemian branch at this time . It was thanks to him that the city gained new privileges. At the same time he appeared as a patron of art and science.
On July 8, 1623, at the request of the Prague Archbishop Ernst Adalbert von Harrach , Rosenthal was reassigned to the Archdiocese, in whose possession Rosental remained until 1948.
