Sedlec-Prčice ( German Sedletz-Pertschitz ) is a town in the Středočeský kraj region , Czech Republic .

location

The twin town Sedlec-Prčice with a further 34 districts is located in the southernmost part of the region. 2 819 (2006) inhabitants live on 6,408 hectares in the Sedlecká kotlina ( Sedletz Basin ), the southern edge of which is formed by the Jistebnické vrchoviny . The landscape was named Bohemian Meran in the 19th century. It is a hilly, wooded area that is well developed for tourism. Sedlec lies on the Sedlecký creek , Prčice northeast of it at the mouth of its tributary Prčický potok.

history

Prčice ( German Pertschitz , also Purschitz ) is the older of the two cities. Both towns suffered from the Thirty Years War and the famine at the beginning of the 18th century. Since Sedlec and Prčice were not connected to the rail network in the 19th century, there was no industry.

Prčice is the cradle of the Witigonen and their family branches Krumau , Rosenberg , Neuhaus , and Landstein . They go back to the common progenitor Witiko von Prčice .

Between 1815 and 1822 a stone bridge was built between the towns of Sedlec and Prčice instead of the swampy ford through the Sedlecký potok. The initiator of the bridge construction was the wealthy Prague citizen Karl Burka, who married the owner of the Prčice manor, Johanna widowed von Malowetz . Burka also had the Prčice Castle redesigned and surrounded by an English landscape park, water art for the fountains on the Prčice Market and the splendid decoration of the St. Laurentius Church. These costly construction work led Burqa to bankruptcy, and in 1830 he had to sell the Prčice estate.

The place is known nationally for the annual hike from Prague to Prčice, which has been taking place since 1966 , in which thousands of people take part.

From 1960 to 2006 the city belonged to the Okres Benešov .
