history
Nepomuk was founded in 1727 below the Rosenthaler Kamm by German settlers from the Bohemian Forest who had settled in the Rosenthal rule after the Thirty Years' War . The Prague Archbishop Johann Moritz Gustav von Manderscheid-Blankenheim granted the settlers exemption from compulsory and military service. The residents lived in simple log houses and lived from forestry work, made clapboards, furniture, toys, clogs and other wooden objects. There were also carved figures, especially the Madonna of the Holy Mountain . Until the 20th century, charcoal was produced in the forests in Meilern. Agriculture was not very productive because of the stony and clayey soils. A forge was added later.
In the 19th century, the residents began to replace their log houses with scrap wood scallops in the Bohemian Forest style. The village school taught exclusively in German until 1870. In the 20th century, the village was visited more and more by tourists because of its traditional wooden construction. In the 1950s, houses were built in the Finnish style. Nepomuk has been part of the Třemšín Nature Park since 1997.
