Svatý Jan (German St. Johann ob Skrejschow ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located 23 kilometers southeast of Příbram and belongs to the Okres Příbram .

geography

The place is located on the right side of the Vltava valley on a hill above the valley of the Brzina river in the Central Bohemian hill country . Neighboring towns are Skrýšov, Jedle, Samoty and Medná in the north, Štíleček and Hrabří in the east, Smrčí in the south, Bražná in the southwest and Brzina in the west.

history

At a miraculous spring on the wooded hill above Skrýšov and Jedle, the landlord Adam Ignaz Mladota of Solopisk built one of the fourteen helpers and St. Chapel consecrated to John of Nepomuk . At that time there was only a forester's house in the woods.

After the Fürstlich Schwarzenbergische Oberforstmeister Norbert Kfelíř ze Zakšova had acquired the rule Skrýšov, he had the baroque church of St. John of Nepomuk built in place of the chapel between 1760 and 1764. At the church there was first a house for the chaplain and finally a settlement that was named podle kostela (under the church). The name Svatý Jan nad Skrýšovem was used to distinguish it from other places .

As a pastor who was Castle Kaplan Engelthaler used, and later the spiritual care was carried out until its dissolution in 1785 by the locust brotherhood. After the abolition of patrimonial Svatý Jan became an independent municipality.

The municipality of Svatý Jan consists of the districts Bražná ( Braschna ), Brzina ( Bresin ), Drážkov ( Draschkow ), Hojšín ( Hojschin ), Hrachov ( Hrachow ), Řadovy ( Radau ), Skrýšov ( Skrejschow ) and Svatý Jan ( St. Johann ) and the settlements of Buzice ( Busitz ), Přívozec ( Pschiwosetz ), Radobyl, Šourkův Mlýn.
