Dvořák memorial
The main attraction of the village is a property built in 1878 in the neo-renaissance style with an approximately eight hectare English landscape park of the romantic style phase (originally a hunting park) and two lakes. The builder was the owner of the Vysoká estate, Count Wenzel Robert von Kaunitz (Václav Robert Kounic), who lived there with his first wife Josefína Kounicová (1849–1895; née Čermáková), a famous Prague actress at the time. The architect of the building was Čeněk Gregor .
For more than two decades, the “Schlösschen” was the country residence of the Bohemian composer Antonín Dvořák , whose brother-in-law was Count Kaunitz (Anna Čermáková, Kaunitz's first wife, was Dvořák's wife; both sisters were pupils of Dvořák. He fell in love with 16-year-old Josefína unhappy, he married Anna, who was eleven at the time, eight years later, on November 17, 1873). In 1884, after his great artistic breakthrough in England, Dvořák acquired the property with the former caretaker's house and sheepfold from Kaunitz and converted it into the so-called Villa Rusalka . Many of Dvořák's compositions were created on this country estate and were influenced by the landscape around Vysoká u Příbramě, including his most famous opera “ Rusalka ”, the motifs of which are said to originate in particular from Rusalka's lake . For his 8th symphony , Dvořák was also inspired by the landscape near Vysoká u Příbramě. In addition to composing, he devoted himself to fruit growing, gardening and pigeon breeding. The Villa Rusalka is still owned by the composer's descendants. Today the manor is used as a memorial and museum commemorating Dvořák's life (Památník Antonína Dvořáka). The property has been awarded the European Heritage Label by the Czech state .
