Location of the Okres Příbram

Okres Příbram ( German  Freiberg district in Bohemia ) is a district in the southwest of Středočeský kraj in the Czech Republic . In the west and northwest there are extensive forests in a hilly landscape that is over 800 meters high (Tok 864 m above sea level); the lowest point is at the Křeničná stream (271 m above sea level). The Vltava River with two dams, the Orlík Dam and Kamýcká Přehrada, flows through the area . Orlík is the largest dam in the Czech Republic.

With 1,692 km², Příbram is the largest district in the district. 114,778 inhabitants live in it (as of January 1, 2019), 57% of them in the seven cities of Příbram , Dobříš , Sedlčany , Sedlec-Prčice , Březnice , Rožmitál pod Třemšínem and Nový Knín . The Okres includes 120 communities with 412 districts and 517 basic settlement units.

At the foot of the mountains, natural treasures, including uranium ore, are mined, which causes the district high environmental pollution. Mechanical engineering, the food industry and the processing of non-ferrous metals have also settled here. The largest employer is the plastic goods manufacturer RAVAK in Příbram. Potatoes and grain are grown as agricultural products, and cattle are also farmed. The Brdy military training area was closed at the end of 2015 .

51% of the population is gainfully employed, 27% of them in industry and just under seven percent in agriculture and forestry. The average wage is 14,369 kroner, unemployment 9%.
