Location of the Okres Benešov

The Okres Benešov ( German  district Beneschau ) is located in the southern part of the Central Bohemian Region in the Czech Republic . The Central Bohemian Highlands (Středočeská pahorkatina) and the landscape on the Vltava and the lower Sázava form the largest part . The sea level of the richly wooded area with many ponds is between 200 and 700 m above sea level. M, the highest point is the Mezivrata mountain (713 m above sea level). By building the dams Slapská přehrada on the Vltava and Švihov on the Želivkamany rivers changed their natural riverbed. The Slapská dam with 1390 hectares is a recreational area and the Švihov dam with 1400 hectares serves as a drinking water reservoir.

With 1475 km² the district is the second largest in the region. Around 92,000 people live in it in 114 communities. 52% of all residents live in the nine towns of Benešov , Neveklov , Pyšely , Vlašim , Votice , Týnec nad Sázavou , Sedlec-Prčice , Bystřice u Benešova and Sázava . The average age is 39.7 years.

The area used to have an agricultural character, today mainly potatoes and grain are grown and timber is used. After 1960 industry settled in, especially mechanical engineering, the food industry and electrical engineering. The largest employers today include the glass works Kavalier, as Sázava, Sellier & Bellot, as in Vlašim, TRW Autoelektronika, sro in Benešov and RABBIT Trhový Štěpánov, as

29% of those employed work in manufacturing, 8% in agriculture, but both with a decreasing proportion, with the proportion in the tertiary sector increasing. The average gross wage is 15,107 kroner, about 2000 kroner lower than the district average. Unemployment is 4.7%, which is the fourth lowest rate in the Czech Republic .

Attractions

The partly untouched romantic landscape with many rivers and ponds attracts many tourists to the region. The Blaník Nature Reserve protects the ancient cultures of agriculture. There are also nature reserves near Podhrázský rybník, near Bystřice with numerous species of birds and Ve Studeném, two kilometers from Sázava with preserved primeval forest.

The historical monuments include the Konopiště chateau and the gothic Český Šternberk chateau , the baroque chateau Jemniště , the renaissance chateau Komorní Hrádek and the chateau Líšno . There are also numerous monasteries and churches.

On January 1, 2007, the city of Sedlec-Prčice moved to Okres Příbram . Nemíž was incorporated into Tehov at the end of 2008.
