Dolní Kralovice (German Unterkralowitz , also Unter Kralowitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located 16 kilometers northwest of Humpolec and belongs to the Okres Benešov .

Originally, Dolní Kralovice was a small town in the Želivka Valley . The place was abandoned by the decision to build the Švihov dam in 1963 and rebuilt in a different location to the southeast. The old Dolní Kralovice, which was near the current bridge on State Road 150, was demolished in 1974 and sank in the reservoir in 1975.

geography

The place is located in the Unterkralowitz basin on the northwest slope of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands in the headwaters of the Zahrádčický potok. The Želivka valley with the Švihov drinking water reservoir extends to the north . The D 1 motorway runs past four kilometers to the west .

Neighboring towns are Zahrádčice in the northeast, Martinice u Dolních Kralovic and Šetějovice in the east, Snět and Blažejovice in the southeast, Vraždovy Lhotice and Vítonice in the south, Tomice in the west, Brzotice and Střítež in the northwest.

history

According to ancient traditions, Kralowicz formed the center of Queen Swatawa’s district , which stretched between the rivers Želivka and Goldbach (Martinický potok) since 1088 . The area flowed into the chapter she established on the Vyšehrad . Kralonicz was first mentioned in a document in 1352 in the confirmation of ownership by Charles IV .

A Jewish community had existed in the village since the 15th century, and at that time they built a cemetery and a hundred years later the synagogue.

In 1436 Emperor Sigismund left the place to the knight Oldřich Močihub. The next owner was Nikolaus Trčka von Lípa , whose descendants owned Dolní Kralovice until 1547.

The other owners were the Voračický z Paběnic and, since the end of the 17th century, the Count Trautson zu Falkenstein. In 1766 Karl Josef von Palm-Gundelfingen acquired the rule. In 1844 Wilhelm Vincenz, Prince of Auersperg, bought Unterkralowitz. After the line in the male member had died out, Count Trauttmansdorff inherited the castle in 1942, which they owned until 1945.

After the abolition of patrimony , Unterkralowitz became the seat of a judicial district in the political district of Ledetsch an der Sasau in 1850 . The spot was the center of a rural area with small farming villages. In 1902 the local railway from Beneschau to Wlaschim was extended to Unterkralowitz.

The synagogue was used as a temple by the Hussite Church from 1951 to 1969. In 1960 the neighboring village of Horní Kralovice was incorporated. The decision to build a dam on the Želivka for the drinking water supply of the capital Prague in 1963 had serious consequences for the town . At the end of the 1960s, construction began on a new settlement Dolní Kralovice on the northern outskirts of Vraždovy Lhotice. In August 1974, passenger rail traffic between Trhový Štěpánov and Dolní Kralovice was discontinued . Between 1974 and 1975 the old Dolní Kralovice was razed to the ground together with Horní Kralovice, Příseka, Libčice and Zahrádka and then flooded by the Švihov reservoir.
