geography

Snět is located on the left side of the Želivka valley, which is flooded with the Švihov drinking water dam , on a ridge in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands . On the opposite bank is the Church of St. Vitus, which was in the center of Zahrádka until 1976 . To the west of the village rises the Hůrka (546 m), which is also known as Blažejovický vrch.

Neighboring towns are Šetějovice and Dolní Rápotice in the north, Kamenná Lhota and Dolní Paseka in the northeast, Horní Paseka in the east, Podivice and Hojanovice in the southeast, Ježov and Vranice in the south, Blažejovice in the southwest and Vraždovy Lhotice and Martinice u Dolních Kralovic in the north-west.

history

Snět originated in the parish of Queen Swatawa , which originally consisted of dense forests , during its settlement by the Vyšehrad collegiate chapter . The first written mention of the place took place in 1350, when the Church of St. Peter and Paul was listed as one of the parish churches of the Deanery Štěpánov . The village belonged to the benefices of the Vyšehrad canons . In 1359 this was Peter von Hornbach, from 1390 Jan Sádlo von Smilkov followed, then Wilhelm von Rosental and finally Nikolaus Ubaldinův.

After the destruction of Vyšehrad by the Hussites , Nikolaus Trčka of Lípa received the parish as a gift in 1436. The owners changed frequently during the 16th century. In 1603 Samuel Diwisch Vokrouhlický von Langendorf bought the place, followed by Albrecht Vražda von Kunwald. In 1618 Radslav Jaroslav von Wchynitz and Tettau and Wenzel Vražda the Younger von Kunwald owned the place. The descendants of both held Snět until 1698, after which Johann Leopold Donatus von Trautson and Falkenstein acquired the lords of Unterkralowitz and Martinitz. He was followed in 1766 by Karl Josef von Palm-Gundelfingen and, from 1844, by Prince Wilhelm Vincenz von Auersperg .

After the patrimonial rule was replaced, Snět became independent in 1848. In 1910 the schoolhouse was built according to plans by the architect Bohumír Šilinger. In 1926 a major fire broke out in which 27 of the 68 houses in the village burned down. In 1945 the goods of the Princes Auersperg were confiscated.

From 1974 the Želivka valley was flooded by the Švihov dam ; at the same time, the Zahrádka area was dissolved and largely flooded.
