Divišov (German Diwischau ) is a Městys in the Central Bohemian Region in the Czech Republic.
geography
It is located about 36 km southeast of Prague. The Dálnice 1 runs from Prague to Brno , four kilometers east of the town , which is also the European route 50 and European route 65 , with the motorway exit 41 in Šternov.
history
The first written mention of Divišov comes from 1130. The history of the village in the Blaník foothills is linked from the beginning with the family of the Lords of Diviš, who soon took the name of Sternberg . In the local parish, Václav von Radeč and Prague Archbishop Nikolaus Puchník von Černice worked in the 14th century as the building director of the St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague . The baroque church of St. Bartholomew became a place of pilgrimage to Mary, in it there is the grave of the daughter of King George of Podebrady , Eliška. The Divišov musical tradition is linked to the Vinař family. After 1948, Eso and Jawa motorcycles were manufactured here . On October 10, 2006 Divišov was raised to Městys.

The Městys Divišov consists of the districts Dalovy ( Dalow ), Divišov ( Diwischau ), Křešice ( Kreschitz ), Lbosín ( Lebosin ), Měchnov ( Miechnow ), Radonice ( Radonitz ), Šternov ( Sternhof ) and Zdebuzeves ( Stebusowes ).
Attractions
Museum of the History of the Jewish Community in Divišov: Jews settled in Divišov since the end of the 17th century. Some houses, the cemetery and the neo-classical synagogue are reminiscent of their community with an exhibition that aims to bring the Jewish history of the region closer.
