Kamberk , 1951 to 1991 Zlaté Hory , (German Kamberg , older also Karrenberg ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located twelve kilometers south of Vlašim and belongs to the Okres Benešov .

geography

Kamberk is located in the Středočeská pahorkatina in a region called Česká Sibiř ( Bohemian Siberia ). The village lies in the Blanická Brázda ( Blanická Brázda ) on the Blanice River . Above the village, the Blanice is dammed in the 12 hectare Kamberský rybník ( Kamberger pond , also called Zlatohorský rybník ). To the northwest, near Roudný , lies the disused Roudný gold mine, which was the richest gold deposit in Europe in the 1920s. The Blaník rises to the northwest .

Neighboring towns are Louňovice pod Blaníkem and Hrajovice in the north, Načeradec in the northeast, Pravětice in the east, Hrnčíře in the southeast, Skrýšov in the south, Vosná and Křekovice in the southwest, Lhýšov and Otradov in the west and Předbořice in the northwest.

history

The mountain town of Karrenberg was founded in the 13th century by German miners who operated gold mining here. The place belonging to the Lords of Landstein was first mentioned in writing in 1261. Since 1280, a fortress owned by Sezima von Landstein has been documented. Jan Rotlev, a citizen of Prague, bought the town of Karrenberg in the 14th century. The royal Bohemian mint master bought several gold mines in the country at this time, including one in Eule . There Rotlev became the most successful mining entrepreneur in the city's history when he won half a ton of gold within six months by finding a large gold vein . The Karrenberg family ( Kamberský von Kamberk ) belonged to the following owners from the 14th century . Karrenberg's importance as a gold mining site died out in the 15th century when the mines were closed. Subsequently, various noble families took turns as owners of Karrenberg.

In 1700 the Lords of Kuenburg acquired Karrenberg and attached the place to the Fideikommissherrschaft Jung Woschitz . The festival, which was no longer needed as a manor house, was converted into a rectory. Over the years the place name changed to Kamberg / Kamberk. After the abolition of patrimonial Kamberk formed from 1848 a municipality in the Tábor district . In 1890 Kamberk had 599 inhabitants, in 1939 around 800 people lived in the place. After the Second World War, the place was assigned to the Okres Votice . After the communists came to power in 1948, a wave of place renaming began in the re-established Czechoslovakia , the aim of which was to eradicate Germanisms . In 1951 the village was renamed Zlaté Hory . In 1961 Zlaté Hory came to Okres Benešov . After the Velvet Revolution , the residents decided to return to the historically grown place name Kamberk, which the community has been using again since 1991. Two thirds of Kamberk's houses are now used as holiday homes.
