history

The settlement on the old Gmünder Steig was established in the 13th century by the lords of Dubá . The place was founded between 1258 and 1278 by Andreas von Dubá, who also donated the church. The name of the place is probably derived from the old Czech word bystrěc ( torrent ).

Between 1361 and 1381, Beneš von Dubá had Leštno Castle built, to whose rule Bystřice then belonged. During the reign of Beneš von Dubá, the church was elevated to a parish church. His son Wenzel was a regional judge and from 1414 to 1415 one of the companions of Jan Hus in Constance . After the dynasty of the Dubá family died out, in 1460 Peter von Sternberg acquired the Leštno rule. Sternberg's property, who was a staunch opponent of King George of Podebrady , was confiscated.

In 1471, Georg von Podiebrad raised the town of Bystřice to a market town in gratitude for the support of the residents by constructing effective slingshot devices in the battles with Zdenko von Sternberg on Konopischt about the Ostromeč castle. After the death of Georg von Podiebrad, Peter von Sternberg recaptured Leštno in 1471.

During the Thirty Years War Bystřice was initially spared from acts of war. Only at the end of the war, after the Battle of Jankau , was the area sacked and plundered when the Swedes passed through. As a result of the devastation, Leštno's rule became extinct and the market town fell into insignificance. The main branches of business were agriculture, forestry and fish farming. During the 19th century, processing plants for agricultural products settled in Bystřice. From the middle of the 19th century the community belonged to the judicial district of Beneschau .

Bystřice on November 3, 1997 raised to the city. On July 31, 2006, 4031 people lived in Bystřice with all districts, 2023 of them in the city.
